Local Instance of Magento

I have been playing with a local instance of Magento - working on a custom template. When running on Windows (through WAMP). To get login working there must be a dot in the base site name - thus http://localhost/magento will not work - instead install to http://127.0.0.1/megento and you have a dot in the name. This issue is related to the way that cookies are handled internally and will not present any difficulty on a publicly hosted site.
